Two more great songs from Our CD Dog Kuf.

Million Miles Away; the single release from our first CD offering. This addresses one of the major problems in the world today, drug use in all its forms from the consequences to the action. This song has a catchy guitar hook that pulls you in and keeps you wanting more sweet harmonies and an intriguing solo. Let the lyrics speak for themselves.

 miles away artwork

Million Miles Away

First Verse

I’m caught between a hard line

I’m looking for that final sign

Oh Jane you seem to ease the pain

but you don’t forgive and it’s life you drain

I held the promise in my hand

  watched it fly away

      ….Corus

 Oh , oh , oh , ohhh

I’m a million miles away

I’m a million miles away

I’m a million miles away

I’m a million miles away

 and I’m standing next you

 Second Verse

Ah my friend you watched me travel down

the road you just, you just returned from

It seems I’m moving way to fast

  to stop and turn around

I’ heading from a life that’s past

and I can hardly hear a sound

      ….Corus

Oh Jane you seem to ease the pain

but you don’t forgive and that’s your shame

Why Can’t You Love Me; the diversity of humanity is both our strength and our weakness. The artwork represents innocence dealing with both good and evil in life trying to bring about balance. A hard kicking rok song that just keeps driving along. You will never find a more unique solo with lyrics that will get you thinking with out knowing it.

Who Hijacked Reality / #145 The Ultimate Authority.

Journal Entry # 145

July 30th, 2010

In my conversations with the faithful I keep hearing this term. “God is the ultimate authority”. What they really mean is that my god is the ultimate authority. Of course this is impossible based on what we know of how the universe works.

ultimate_frisbee

Who is the ULTIMATE here?

Authority;  The power to enforce laws, exact obedience, command, determine, or judge.

Ultimate; 1. Being last in a series, process, or progression: “As the ultimate arbiter of the Constitution, the Supreme Court occupies a central place in our scheme of government” (Richard A. Epstein).

3. a. Of the greatest possible size or significance; maximum: Has the ultimate diamond been found?

    b. Representing or exhibiting the greatest possible development or sophistication: the ultimate bicycle.

    c. Utmost; extreme:

This statement is a position not only of arrogance but of ignorance. It fosters the idea of no questioning. To me this is a dangerous way to live. Absolute obedience to a power you feel is beyond your understanding. I get the passages quoted to me from the bible which many believe to be the ultimate authority.

·         Matthew 4:7 “Again it is written,” replied Jesus, “‘Thou shalt not put the Lord thy God to the proof.’” … and they are not merely to be opposed, but rejected at once. … Deuteronomy 6:16 “You shall not put the LORD your God to the test, as you tested him at Massah.
00878_flyingspaghettimonster_1280x800

        Is this the ultimate authority?

Personally I will never stop questioning in my lifetime as I could never learn all there is to know in it. Questioning is how we learn and grow. It is the gateway to understanding.

So who is the final authority? The very simple answer is you are. Each one of us determines the path we take. We are the ones who take in the information and make the decisions. Even to declare that god is the final authority has to come from you so you would at the very least first have to understand what the term final authority means. This is what is called being responsible for your actions.

It was put to me this way;

“You expect God to prove himself to you?

Who is more supreme? If He did that we wouldn’t need much in the way of faith would we?”

It doesn’t matter which god or religion you follow. It does not matter what you hold as your ultimate authority. The truth is that you are that authority. We are all the stars of our own show.

There is but one true god and that god is me. My ultimate authority.

Who Hijacked Reality / #144 Women ROCK / The volcano principal

Ok men we have nothing to complain about compared to being a woman. Frankly I am glad I am a man.

The hormone changes a woman goes through and the results of these changes makes life a roller coaster ride for every female. From the teenage rages to menopause life for a woman can be very unsettling. So we need to cut them big slack.

                   PMS_by_Tuxxer_jpg

They mother us, marry us, raise us, teach us, love us, have intimacy with us, baby us, provide for us, look good for us, take care of domestication for us, dress us, look after us, give us our children, tease us, serve us, and admire us. Without them we are lost.

While they are doing all of this they are going through PMS, Post PMS, childbirth, PPD and menopause. Did I leave anything out? What do we do we complain about what?

            menopause

What could be comparable to childbirth passing a kidney stone? All we do is plant the seed they grow it and nurture it until they die. So what do we have to complain about? Yet we only dedicate 2 days to them mother’s day and valentine’s day which is mutual. Appreciate them more. Understand them more and do your best not to complain about them.

As my wife goes through menopause I feel like I am sleeping with a volcano every night. If I feel that way I can only just imagine how she feels.

So we need to stop complaining about the emotional ups and downs that every woman goes through.

Above all love them even when they don’t want to be loved.

             Thanks to my woman.

Who Hijacked Reality / #143 The “WHAT IF” question.

One of the major stumbling blocks we have with each other during conversations especially if they are of a philosophical or ideological nature is what basis of truth we are initially coming from. Generally we are not on the same page due to our subjective nature. I would venture to say we all come from a different interpretation of everything. I feel it is always important if the conversation warrants it to define this before hand to determine the common ground or else we are into the old comparing apples to oranges task. This is never more prevalent than when religious / ethical ideologies enter the mix.

reality

                        Homer the wise

Since the basis of my blog is determining reality this is the a most relevant topic. So how do we determine what is the truth and what is not? First of all we need to establish if we can ever say anything is true 100% or not. Usually when I talk with believers they talk in certainties; “I know god loves me”  or “It is undeniable”. To me these are statements from ignorance. Although they may feel that way it probably is not true. Could it be? I would have to say yes but not for sure. There is always doubt hence, the “what if” statement comes into play. This statement introduces an element of doubt and can be used anytime. This is why we should base all are statements on probabilities  and even though we say “the truth is” for general speaking what we really mean is the probability of this is high. If it is not true then the probability is low. That is why our court systems have as their criteria reasonable doubt. So when I hear someone talk in absolutes that are not even allowed to be challenged it worries me especially if they have no credible evidence to back it up.

                      REALITY

It was pointed out to me that as an Atheist that the probability that god exists is 50/50. This is not correct and is dangerous to determine if something is true or not. From this point on I ask you to accept that if I say something is true or not I am speaking in probabilities without having to mention it each time. Now that this major stumbling block is out of the way. I don’t know what the probability is that god exists but basing it on credible evidence from our method of achieving this goal it is very low. They are confusing probability with possibility. The possibility is 50/50 either true or false as are all things when broken into individual statements but a probability is based on the evidence to support this. The possibility statistic represents a choice.

Engaging children in conversation displays the best examples of the “what if” principal as their imaginations are on overdrive. What if an elephant had wings, What if I could fly and so on… At this point in their lives they are asking these things to try and figure out what is true so we need to help them by giving them a foundation based in reality. Sadly when it comes to many areas this foundation is misguided and based in fantasy while pretending to be reality.

So how do we determine what is reality. I have talked about this before and will talk about as much as I can because it is the foundation.  When a religious person and I am speaking in general terms teaches their children the foundations and bases those on religious doctrine as fact they are setting their children up for failure even if those children spend their entire lives inside the box of religion. They will base life on a foundation with a high probability of not being true. If things are taught as possibilities and all options are explored then that child can make an educated choice realizing that although things may not be true  they can chose to believe if they want to but understand the truth behind their decision.

                 frogwings

“If a frog had wings he wouldn’t bump his ass when he hopped”  Red Foreman

Credible evidence; this is evidence based in a common reality that can be demonstrated to be true using various methods. We can use mathematical or logical proofs. We can use forensic evidence along with critical thinking. We can use our senses and verify them with others and the other types of proofs.  Now this is not a perfect system but it is better than imagining something and then taking it as truth. That is what religion does. Without credible evidence anything can be verified as true and if everything it true then how do we determine what is not true. We will never be able to make a choice on anything. The decision process  in our minds would not work. I will leave it to you to think this through.

As you can see without determining  our basis for reality in all aspects of our life we cannot function and we would never have evolved to where we are. That is why I am always amazed when people take fantasy in their life for reality but never apply the same methods to determine what is true to all aspects of their life. For example religious people will ignore science when it comes to their god as they are using their computer. What a contradiction. Unless you say the ultimate catch phrase “ god works in mysterious ways” which covers everything but proves nothing.

“It is important to have a proper mix of fantasy and reality, that is how we discover things in life by imagining but you have to know where to draw the line.”

Who Hijacked Reality / #142 The box of religion.

Journal Entry # 142

July 27th, 2010

In the never-ending quest for truth the difficulties of peeling away the layers of the onion are demonstrated so well in religion. It is surrounded in mystery that at this point is unverifiable except through logical proofs. Now of course these logical proofs are not accepted by those involved in the mystery because they still want to believe even if it is not true. They have placed themselves inside a box that none may enter unless you buy into the mystery.

This has been demonstrated time and time again to me as I have engaged in debate with those who wish to convert me. They feel but cannot show that their god is the truth. I submit they are in a box. I am in a much bigger box that can include their box and all other possibilities in life. Of course no one can change another’s mind they can only do that but we can influence. When people are rigid in their beliefs it becomes dangerous to them and others.

Word-of-God

Here is an excerpt from a conversation I had with a believer. This shows by the word usage the inability to be flexible. It is in its entirety.

My statements are biblically based. We’re born into sin. ALL of us. We are born into a fallen creation both the rich and the poor. It is not my interpretation it is clear, undeniable biblical fact. God created us for His purpose not our own…. We are His creation not vice versa. Anyone who uses anything as a idol has sinned and fallen short of God’s holy standard. God’s standard is so high. He even considers hatred towards fellow man to be murder. Idolatry is a sin. We are not to hold anything as an idol. God must come first in our lives. Our lifes are not about us. Unfortunately the unsaved tend to think the reverse. I didn’t realize you were not a Christian. I can now understand better why you think the way you do. I use to be like that. Living my life my way…

As you can see he uses words like; undeniable biblical fact…… Which by the very fact that I can deny it is no longer deniable. You can see the rigid conviction ,unmovable and yet he will want me and others to change to his views.

Anyone who uses anything as a idol has sinned and fallen short of God’s holy standard…..The ironic thing about this statement is that while he  stating not to worship idols he is himself worshipping an idol … his god.

It is not my interpretation it is clear, undeniable biblical fact. …. Again to understand what it means he will have to interpet it. His brain will have to sort out the words and what they mean it is exactly the opposite of what he says… unless you involve the magic of god. I am constantly astounding at the ability to twist things to a persons interpetation and then say they did not .

The condescending tone of this passage is strong.  There was much more with the same overtones. Where does this leave us as a species? What I have found in religion is a disguise of niceties while not displaying the true intent. The true intent is usually My way or you are doomed and my god will doom you. I will carry out whatever instructions he has doomed you with.  Dangerous?

I responded to a post by someone because I thought we were engaged in a fairly lengthy debate where I would post a quote and they would respond and so on. Unfortunately it appears I had crossed a line when I changed the wording to what I thought was the real meaning not sugar coated. Well this opened up a flood gate of comments towards me. The comments were directed at how I had been disrespectful. I did not see it because I had not broken what I thought were the rules, no swearing and no personal attacks.  It was pointed out that I had invaded a personal edification space which I knew nothing about.

Here is the bible quote and my interpretation; you be the judge.

Original quote……. a great verse to start the work week: Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not [in] vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58

My comment……….. In other words never admit you might be wrong and continue the job of harvesting souls for the end of days. Expect others to bow down to your god while having contempt for all who do not for they shall perish in the pits of hell forever and ever. That is a wonderful thing to wish upon someone. This is the  unsugar coated version of the mission of the Christian.

s320x240

I keep hearing that gods ways are higher. Faith requires no evidence but god… Yet the same people that apply these standards of determining the truth do not apply those standards in all aspects of their life. Their god has a special spot. They do not see this and I do because it is the same in every religion, a pattern that you can verify. They want to believe it is true even if it is not but I only want the truth whether I like it or not.

The box within the box.

As cultures grow and die their gods die with them. In time the gods of this culture will die as well and give way to new gods whatever they may be. Although it will be more exciting to make a movie about the Greek gods than that of the gods of today.
