As I continue on my quest to talk openly about pertinent issues with people I run into some interesting people. Recently it has been both believers and non believers who are young and bent on changing the world. This is a positive force but they are all over the place, very difficult to talk to as they cannot form a flow in their thoughts.

dog-bone

These people are like a dog with a pile of bones in front of him. The dog doesn’t know which bone to take first so he tries to grab as many as he can. Of course it is very hard to concentrate on one bone if you have many. Soon he is going as fast as he can to get to all the bones.  Eventually he will run out of bones and if he has been careful he will find the best ones for last. By this time he is able to savoir and enjoys the bones. Really give it his entire attention. Maybe he already used the best bone. Maybe he should have taken his time and developed a system to determine the best bone. As he gets through the pile he realizes that many were not even bones but just fake bones. Soon he is so tired that he gives up. What he realizes is that he should have started off with a smaller pile of bones.

conspiracy-poster

These people are into Conspiracy Theories. Aliens, gods you name it. Most of these things can be weeded out with a little common sense and reasoning. Maybe they should study how to properly reason.

We have little time on this earth and to get caught up in the bullshit is stupid if you have legitimate goals. I keep hearing I want to do something to make a better world but that is all they do just talk but the talk is not constructive when it is all fantasy. The Star Wars/ Star Trek argument.

Although I like to talk about things from many perspectives I find this counterproductive to my overall goal. I have a really hard time following some of these conversations not because I don’t know what you are talking about but because you present it without a flow and a conclusion. When I hear the NWO is out to get you please back it up with some evidence or else it just sounds paranoid. If you read this and feel you are one of those I am talking about this is not intended as an insult. You have your journey just like I have mine but I am at a point where those topics while interesting are not my focus as I have put them in their proper place. They may be true but the evidence does not support most of the far fringe ideas. Evidence is everything. Speculation is fun but can get out of hand.

Who Hijacked Reality / #176 Religion is an addiction.

Journal Entry # 176

August 30th, 2010

I received a very a very interesting phone call the other night. It was quit unexpected. Someone called me interested in an article I had written over 6 months ago in my local paper. The person was very interested in what I had written while not agreeing. Of course as a writer this is a pleasurable experience. The more I talk, write and get our music out it appears the more I have to be weary of initial meetings. While it is great to have fans along with those fans you get the haters so I have had to learn to be more cautious in my initial contacts. I don’t want to lose the purpose and enthusiasm with which I began this quest. It is all a learning experience.

Getting back to the call, after determining the nature of the call I decided to meet with this person of course in a public place. The person who was older was just interested in talking and hopefully not preaching as he was one of the faithful. It is during this conversation that the idea hit me that religion is an addiction, not a passion our obsession and it is for one very specific reason.

cross glasses

It appears that we all have an addiction, something we feel we cannot live without and that is what we base our lives on each day. Is this a bad thing? I don’t think so we can be addicted to our families our jobs or just doing nothing as examples.

As we talked and I learned more about his beliefs it was taking a usual path for me. I usually can divide believers into 2 categories….1; Devout believers; there are righteous and unshakable in their beliefs. They will not bend in any way. Their only purpose is to convert and when they feel this will not happen they move on after their final statement which is to this effect, god will not reveal himself to you until you truly believe. This is the Christian trap. 2; those who have doubt and are searching. They are willing to talk, they consider themselves moderate usually subscribing to the peaceful tenants of their religion, they are willing to learn and explore possibilities but they usually cannot get past that final hurdle in their mind because of the addiction.

This gentleman agreed with most of what I was presenting but would qualify his answers or comments when it appeared there was a direct challenge to one point. He would say I agree to a point. Even though he followed the logic through he would stop  at this critical juncture in his opinion. I would go back and say, Ok you agreed with this, right and if you did then this must be true he could still not let go.

I would then ask him Ok what is the point you disagree with? We would talk more and keep running into the same snag. Here it is; we cannot explain everything in the universe. There are still so many mysteries. While this statement is absolutely correct the qualifier to this is that therefore god must be the answer. Gods’ ways are beyond our understanding. This very well might be correct but the evidence does not support  this conclusion.

Even when the answer is not god based on the mounds of evidence he would still prefer to have this possibility as the preferred choice than what was probably true, why?

For this simple reason, I believe that he and many others would rather hold on to the hope of eternal life in a Heaven than face the alternative. No not Hell just plain old death and that is it. That is the addiction. The reward is a very alluring concept. Take away the reward or punishment and what have you got. I often ask the faithful in my discussions, would you still follow your god if there was no reward or punishment?

The addiction is strong, the illusion is even stronger.

One of the exciting things about being a musician is the creative process. As we are working on our new album we decided to release one of the songs before the album is complete. We decided also to shoot a video for it. We had a great time doing this. Now we are not a big production company, ok we are just a small company, ok really we are just a family who loves music so we end up doing it all ourselves. Today we had a blast….. Lots of great bloopers which I will make a separate video of.

You don’t need a label backing you to take your shot at what you love to do. It is never too late to go for what you dream off. I get to play music and create art with my kids and that is awesome. We probably will never be famous or rich but so what. We do this because we love it and frankly we are good at it.

Broke N Blue is a great blues song which has been described as a combination of ZZ top, Led Zeppelin and Joe Satriani and of course The Freeman.  .

I had an idea in mind and of course when we got to the site we found some more great spots to shoot at. Hell we might have even broke a few laws doing this.  The song is about being down in life, being beaten and just getting back up.

Big thanks to Computer Jesus for all his help today. I love playing music and always will. I look forward to your support and we hope you will like the song as much as we do.

Who Hijacked Reality / #174 There is a consciousness shift coming.

I realize at times it may appear that I am adamantly opposed to religions. I will fully admit that I feel that the ideals they subscribe to in my opinion are very dangerous. What I am at my core trying to bring out in the open is our willingness as a species to believe in lies and then act upon those lies. Religion is just one of the many lies that humanity buys into but it is the granddaddy of them all at this point. I am all about truth and the truth is that there is a change coming in the fundamental way we think that will transcend archaic harmful ideals. You can just see the crest of the wave now.

Digital Universe (33)

What will follow will be a tsunami. Change is inevitable. Always has been always will be. The truth always prevails because it is all that there really is. As much as many fundamentalist in all aspects of life will fight this change it is impossible. Evolution is the process which brings about this change everywhere.

Everything has its chance and as things evolve the beneficial advances win out over the non beneficial ones. This applies to all of the universe as well as our own little worlds. Time is the great equalizer.

We can see this in our systems of government throughout history. The only one that is sustainable at this point is a democratic system. Why, because at our core we want freedom and anytime it is withheld it will eventually find its way through. This is why religions will ultimately fail. They demand obedience while suppressing ones freedom. This is why all other systems of government have failed. You can look around this planet in the last 50 years and see this principal in action.

What is this conscious shift I am referring too? It is the awakening of the individual from being subservient to realizing that we all as individuals not only affect our lives with our actions but all life on this planet. Basically we are growing up. As we grow up we assert our independence while taking responsibility. This will not work within religions. There are many who still cling to their faiths with hopes of immortality but as science and reason expands those numbers will shrink. We eventually will embrace our reality and that is when we will begin to understand our true potential. We have to leave the nest sometime.

I have always looked towards my personal independence in this regard and as I look around this world I see others willing to embrace the unknown and leave the false safety of the nest. As third world countries step out of their past and embrace the modern world we can feel this shift rumbling. Of course things always get worse before they get better. I just hope we can make this transition without too much damage.

Religions have had their chance and have not lived up to the challenge they will soon go the way of the Dodo as we all must eventually.

toast

There will be no place in humanities future for gods and superstitions. We will embrace the ideal of truth and seek it out as it waits to be discovered. I eagerly await this journey and  what we will as a species accomplish as much as I am excited about the lives my children will lead. I can’t wait to see this conscious awakening as our eyes are finally opened. Then we can begin to really see what we  have been neglecting to embrace.

Who Hijacked Reality / #173 The Christian Trap.

Journal Entry # 173

August 27th, 2010

When you are talking to people of faith and you can get past the testimonials and standard witnessing you may be lucky enough to get to what I call the Christian trap. Now once I can guide them away from the testimonials buy telling them I have heard it all before and other directions, if I have not lost them (because they usually give up) we can get into some questions and answers. Invariably there will come a point when they realize they have no answers and will set up the trap for me. This can only be done if you are a true believer otherwise you see the silliness of it.

29nov1-cmon-thats-funny

I will give you 2 examples in a conversation I had today so you can see it in action:

My response to you again, Gary, is that you’re thinking too much with your head. It will never make sense that way. I went through the same thing on my journey. If you really do want to understand God then ask Him to draw you to Himself. If you have no interest in really knowing Him then you never will understand the Bible.

No one can really prove God to you Gary, you have to seek him with an honest heart and he will reveal himself to you, you see , unlike most religions Christianity is made up of people from all walks of life , all races and backgrounds , they were not born into it , something happened in their lives to make them follow Jesus.

I can’t give you quick answers but I can tell you this: Keep asking questions! There is nothing wrong with that! Two months ago I was questioning God’s existence as well. I never stopped asking Him the tough questions and He eventually revealed Himself to me in His perfect time.

I didn’t get my answer until 2 months ago. All I can say is that God’s timing is perfect. He knew when I’d be most open to receiving Him. Also, I think you hit on the problem that you’re having: you’re happy with your life… and don’t feel like you need anything more to complete it. That’s the reason the Bible says it’s nearly impossible for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. You have to be willing to give up this life for something better. In that respect, hard times are a blessing

Gary David Currie…… that is a trap and an unreasonable assumption. The way you describe it then any god is valid. If I believe hard enough then he will appear. Really. How hard do you have to believe to the point where I lie to myself and pretend

Gary talking……..Maybe there is another possibility which I subscribe to until I get some evidence god does not exist…….because really that is where all the evidence points to. Why are so many not willing to look at this possibility?

I did look at that possibility. It didn’t hold water for me. The Bible says that we are born with the knowledge of God inside of us. We have proof by the things that are made so we are without excuse for not believing in Him. I believe that deep down you believe He exists or you wouldn’t have so many questions in the first place. Keep asking and keep looking. I truly believe you will find Him.

Can you see the trap? Now it can be worded in many ways but the basic idea is this. If I call on god and he does not reveal himself to me then I did not believe enough. No matter what I will be the one who is at fault. This way the faith is always protected and god is always right. It could never be that he does not exist. There is no logic involved in this just the fact that you have to believe. Now to me you will say you believe when you are doing one of two things; 1. Lying to yourself being delusional in the process; 2. Pretending when you know it probably is not true. Either way you’re probably lying.

24_miksi_ateistit_on_pahoja_eng

I offer a trap for the Christians to show the absurdity of religion.

A war between Christians and Islam is raging, Millions are being killed (this war is coming it is building daily and when the USA attacks Iran LOOK OUT) you have the opportunity to sit down with a Muslim and you both …have the power to stop this if you just admit that either of you could be wrong and that you will compromise your beliefs to stop innocent people from being killed. These compromises involve major changes in your doctrine. You will also teach these compromises to all in your faith so that this war stops and does not happen again. The compromise will cross the lines each of you has drawn and you must be honest especially to yourself in the compromise by acknowledging it as the truth. No lying. Will you do it if he will or will you let the war rage on? The decision is the same for both of you because you are both rigid in your beliefs.

According to the laws of god either decision dooms you to hell.

This trap is a common theme in all religions even Yoda put Luke in the same position; Luke – I don’t believe it. Yoda – That is why you fail. …

Believing in something can certainly help it to happen but it must be realistic and not grounded in delusion and that is the problem with faith in gods, they are probably not real.
