Journal Entry #427

I like to keep things simple getting rid of all the nonsense that dresses something up. You can disguise something all you want to but the truth will still be the truth.

For example if we look at the evolution / creation debacle it truly is ridiculous. There is no controversy here there is a set of verified facts which support a scientific theory called Evolution and then there is an attempt to legitimize and dress up a myth from a holy book. Now I will be accused of not understanding peoples beliefs by presenting this and any number of excuses to show that Christianity is true but again the evidence does not support the bible as the truth but only as a book written by men of their time.

Why Atheists laugh at Christians and Muslims ft. Steve Carell ( TheUKatheist )

The above video demonstrates not only how simple this is but how silly as well. We have taken these lies and dressed them up so much that they have taken on epic proportions that people are so caught up in that they cannot or will not see the truth.

ASC Truth in Advertising

It really is simple. So far there is absolutely no verifiable evidence for god and to be blunt I will say that you are lying to yourself if you think god any god is real. Am I being insensitive? No I am merely pointing out the truth without dressing it up. In talking about this all I and many others are attempting to do is to peel away the layers of the onion that dresse it up.

The tactics that are used to avoid the simple truth are mind blowing. Denial is an epidemic. I spend most of the time in discussion trying to navigate through the mine field of misinformation.

If I ask one simple question in a discussion I rarely get an answer or if I do it is so wrong that I don’t know where to begin to demonstrate the flaws and that question is;

Please demonstrate to me that you actually understand what evolution is?

This is where they either stop talking or completely avoid what I have asked. Understanding evolution would clear up so many misconceptions but when you are in denial you do not want to go anywhere near the knowledge that will force you to face what is probably the truth. The vast majority of the discourse on many issues is spent on the wrong information.

Stop dressing religion up and start undressing it to get to the bare facts.

Who Hijacked Reality / #426 It is just an act of god.

“We combat natural disasters with acts of god” This is a Salvation Army Logo.  What does this really mean?

Are they not the same thing?

ACT OF GOD; An event which is caused solely by the effect of nature or natural causes and without any interference by humans whatsoever.

This sounds like a natural disaster to me so what is the point of the logo. We combat god with god? When god fights himself we are there to moderate?

This concept was explored in a great movie with Billy Connelly.

The Man Who Sued God – Best Scene

A few questions;

If god is responsible will he answer when challenged to fix up his mess.?

Who will speak for god if he does not speak for himself?

If no one speaks does this prove there is no god?

Will god pay up for the damage he caused?

Will he tell us why he caused it in the first place?

Which god will actually represent?

Why do we continue to call disasters that are of natural origins acts of god when we now know god has nothing to do with it? I think this term needs to go as it only reaffirms the ignorance that still permeates this world. There is no act of god because there is no god.

Who Hijacked Reality / #424 The legitimacy of the bible.

Journal Entry #424

April 27th, 2011

If god wrote the bible should it not be in first person? Should it not say ” I created”?
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
If god inspired the bible then there really is no reason to take it as his word as it will be completely open to interpretation.
If man wrote the bible then really who gives a shit.

The bible is the cornerstone of Christianity just as any holy book is for the religion it represents so depending on how one legitimizes its authority will dictate how they follow the rules of the religion. So everything depends on these books being the authorative word of the god they represent.

I will focus on the bible which I do not give legitimacy for a very simple reason it has not in any way been proven to be the word of god.

Unless it can be proven that god actually wrote the bible himself than it will not be the word of god. Even then one must also prove that god is actually real. The bible as it is written is self fulfilling circular logic.

Ok so if it is not written by god which should actually be easy for god just a snap of the fingers and there you go, also he could easily update it at the very least every year. Where would the mystery be then? Without the mystery there is no god.

Now we are left with one other option no matter how you slice it, you can say it was inspired, divine or commanded by god but it will still be written buy man which gives it absolutely no legitimacy as the word of god. Once the bible is framed in this light there is nothing special about it at all. Just another book in fact not even a very good one. All the verifiable evidence points to this as a book written by men of their time describing the human condition of their time. While it may be interesting to historians beyond that no one really would care. It is only because people want the magical goodies that is valued as a special book.

Even if it was written by god we would then have to learn to read it in the language of god and no matter how you look at it each individual will interpret it as they see fit. Continuity will always be a problem.  Even know when I discuss this with Christians and I point out that it is all subjective we run into the problem of each person believing they are the true Christian and they have the right interpretation of it but of course no one will ever really know. It is all subjective and always will be.

The bible has no legitimacy as the word of god. It is just a book written by many authors full of stories that while some may call interesting I think they really are boring. There is so much literature that I would consider far above the bible. Why we follow something written 1800 years ago is beyond me.

I find understanding and learning about evolution far more interesting than the creation story / myth presented in the bible. If I want magic I will watch a great movie. I would rather read Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit any day over the bible and when I do I realize that it is just fantasy but good fantasy because it takes me away while I am reading it. The bible does not do this for me in fact every moment reading it is agonizing. I only read it because it is important for me to be aware of what it is people go all nuts for.

Besides the fact that god probably does not exist if he did I would certainly expect him the most powerful being ever to write a much better book.

I suggest you pick up another book because the bible is

BORING

Who Hijacked Reality / #423 How can one just set aside reason?

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

Journal Entry #423

April 26th, 2011

Each morning you wake up and take for granted what the process of science and reason has enriched your life with.  If you are reading this it is because of science, it is because people have used the process of reason to eventually lead to the wonder that is the computer and the internet. Look around you and mans discoveries and inventions are everywhere and yet when it comes to the gods of man people suspend this reason and ignore what science tells them is true. I am mystified by this.

Is the power of eternal life that has no bearing in reality that strong? Do you actually think you and others who believe like you are so special that the laws of the universe will completely change for you so you can go to your heaven? Do you actually think that just because you say the magic words “I accept Jesus Christ as my lord and saviour” that you are now special and that everyone else who has not done so is doomed on judgment day?

Do you really believe that without god you would commit terrible acts against humanity? Do you think that all you have to do is wish for something and it will come true? Do you actually think that just because you believe something to be true that it is true? Do you really think that an invisible god cares about what you think and want in life, that he cares if you swear or think certain thoughts?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions you have suspended reason. You have stopped thinking rationally and you are delusional.

There is absolutely no evidence for any of this to even be worthy of being considered to be true. This kind of thinking should not even enter our thought process and we definitely should as a species not give any of this legitimacy.

This is how it begins and then the rules come into play, yes the rules and then the real problems begin. In order to fulfill this delusional thinking people will do terrible things. They will hurt the ones they love both mentally and physically and will do it all in the name of their god who they consider a god of love and compassion.

I ask you to apply the same reason that you do in all other areas of your life to the belief in your god.

- Would you jump out of an airplane on faith? No because you understand the laws of gravity.

- Would you jump in front of a moving car? No because you know that you will get hurt or die.

- Will you open up your laptop and tell it to work and expect it to do all you are thinking? No because we understand the limitations of it and the capabilities as science has shown us.

- If you had your leg cut off would you just start to pray or would you want to be in a hospital with the best medical care you can get? Of course you will want the very best science can offer you.

- If you were accused of a crime would you want due process of law and the case based on verifiable evidence or to just go with what the judge felt was right?

You know that science and reason is the very best system we have to determine what is true so stop putting it aside when it comes to the belief in your god. Science has shown you that your god is probably not real and that there is much to be enjoyed in this life you have, this one and only life.

I have to this day not heard one piece of convincing credible evidence that would show that god is real and I have looked very hard. This nonsense just needs to stop.

I am sorry life is not the way you want it to be suck it up your not the only one. Get over yourself feeling so special that the laws of the universe will be suspended just for you and start using reason to see what religion / faith and a belief in god truly is and the harm that it causes daily by people who engage in this fantasy thinking.

Reason is not the enemy of faith reason is just how we figure out if something is actually true. Try using it in all aspects of your life.

Journal Entry #421

April 224th, 2011

I am interested in how a person can rectify this dilemma which I actually hear more than I want to;

God is always right but man makes mistakes and is fallible. Well the obvious conclusion to this is that man could be wrong about god. So if you can be wrong how can you possibly be absolutely sure that god is right or that anything you believe about god is right?

Watch the 2 videos below and then we will talk.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYtYQ0a7btQ&feature=youtu.be

How Christians Brainwash kids with creationism

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEv2-ocFYUQ

Class On Islam In Germany

I could write a book on the issues these 2 videos present, the fallacies and just outright lies but I think most of you can figure out the obvious on your own. I will say that brainwashing young people and children with religious doctrine is just wrong.

My focus here will be on the idea that children and humans in general need to know that they have a choice, they need to understand that critical thinking skills allow them to decide for themselves and that they are under no obligation to be told what to think.

A dose of reason will quickly put  the ideas that are presented in these videos in the realm of dumbass but the very idea that each religion presents their god is the one and only authority on all things in life is scary as hell. Children should be taught how to think not what to think.

I keep trying to get across to the faithful that until god any god actually comes down here and tells us what the bible or Quran actually means it will all be interpretation, all subjective and since we are creatures that can be easily fooled we can certainly be wrong on what we believe is true. Well they bypass these by saying;

I can be wrong but I follow he who cannot be wrong.

The stupidity in this statement is astounding but this is the basis of religious faith. The very idea that god is always right is self serving and circular logic.

God said it, I believe it, that settles it!

This is about as stupid as it gets. Now we have to determine exactly what it is that god is saying and the fact that there are so many versions of god and even within a certain faith different interpretations testifies to the stupidity of this. Within the Christian faith alone there are 38,000 different denominations each following a different version of what god says all thinking they have the right one.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christian_denominations

Once an individual realizes that they have the power to think for themselves everything changes, the spell is broken and the questioning begins as it should. The control mechanism presented so well in these videos falls prey to reason. The vast majority of believers I would say are ignorant to the facts that surround life and want to remain blind to the opposition of their delusions. There really is no sane argument that supports an absolute belief in god or anything else that easily falls under a dose of reality.

I would like to see Critical Thinking taught alongside reading, writing and arithmetic as a basic skill in life. This allows the individual to feel empowered to not only realize they are making their own choices but to also be responsible for those choices.

Critical thinking; It has been described in a much more comprehensive sense as “the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skilfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_thinking

Now this is exactly what any authority based doctrine does not want as this will lead to dissention as it should. If something is not true it should not be taken as true and all things should be put to the test. You don’t have to be a philosopher or a scientist to apply the basics of this principal.

Once some general skills are a acquired one could easily refute the doctrine and dispute the facts that are presented in these videos.

Let’s take evolution for an example. Ken Ham http://creationmuseum.org director of the Creation Museum and Answers in Genesis who is the main speaker in this video presents a distorted and incredibly narrow minded view of what evolution truly is. The very idea that he shows that your grandmother is not a monkey is ridiculous. A quick tutorial on what evolution really is will dispel this and many other ridiculous points he makes. The very idea that dinosaurs and humans lived at the same time falsifies so much science that is beyond intellectually dishonest.

What he believes has no bearing on the facts but that is not what he teaches, he teaches what he would like to be true because the real doctrine behind his message is this; If just one thing in the bible is not true then the possibility for all things to not be true exists and that is just unacceptable so it must be taken literally. The biggest hurdle the bible presents is a creation storey as all the verifiable evidence shows this as false. That is why he and many others spend so much time trying to verify creation even though it has been proven time and time again that evolution is a fact and that creation is a myth.

To say “who are you going to believe god or the scientist” is another masterfully stupid statement. This if followed creates ignorance and stupidity as it is science that has given us our greatest achievements. Of course the kids will just do as they are told and enjoy the cool pictures and fun music but this is neglect through and through.

The “god says it so it must be true” defence and doctrine must be shown for what it truly is, stupidity. We don’t need soldiers of god, any god we need productive intelligent members of the human race so we can move in a positive direction for mankind.

Ken and all those advocating this doctrine should be ashamed of themselves and the parents who buy into this nonsense need to learn the skill of critical thinking themselves.

I find it funny how they will only take the things that they like that god said and then excuse away all the nasty stuff in the bible and there is plenty of the nasty.

The argument from ignorance keeps rearing its head everywhere I turn.

Let me offer a different version of the god says it argument;

I think that god said it but I don’t really know so I will say it the way I would like god to say it and then tell everyone that god said it hoping that they believe me thinking that it was really god that said it.
