Journal Entry # 265

The central idea for me is to challenge religious and supernatural claims as to their validity. The idea is to not buy into to the claim in any way as this will only fuel the delusion. I do find it necessary at times though to get a point across to work within the delusion to challenge it. I must point out that the burden of proof still remains with the one making the claim. Even if you were to disprove any evidence I offer this will not validate the claim you still will have to provide credible evidence that can be verify and tested before the claim can be accepted as true. So far this in the case of religious claims has not happened, still no credible evidence.

If we were to put god on trial within our court systems what do you think the result would be? This of course raises many questions. Would god show up? If he did not then he probably is not real. Who would represent god? Which version of god are we referring to? If god was found guilty what would the sentence be and how would it be enforced?

Is god above his own laws? Let us just deal with one law. The Ten Commandments; SIX: ‘You shall not murder.’

This actually means to murder within ones tribe. http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_10c9.htm  As with any biblical writing it is all subjective so the meaning can change to suit ones needs. I will take it as an overall doctrine saying that killing human beings is forbidden. Why would god kill his own creation?

I will list a few of the instances where god commanded or killed.  http://www.evilbible.com

It always amazes me how many times this God orders the killing of innocent people even after the Ten Commandments said “Thou shall not kill”.  For example, God kills 70,000 innocent people because David ordered a census of the people (1 Chronicles 21).  God also orders the destruction of 60 cities so that the Israelites can live there.  He orders the killing of all the men, women, and children of each city, and the looting of all of value (Deuteronomy 3).  He orders another attack and the killing of “all the living creatures of the city: men and women, young, and old, as well as oxen sheep, and asses” (Joshua 6).  In Judges 21, He orders the murder of all the people of Jabesh-gilead, except for the virgin girls who were taken to be forcibly raped and married.  When they wanted more virgins, God told them to hide alongside the road and when they saw a girl they liked, kidnap her and forcibly rape her and make her your wife!  Just about every other page in the Old Testament has God killing somebody!  In 2 Kings 10:18-27, God orders the murder of all the worshipers of a different god in their very own church!  In total God kills 371,186 people directly and orders another 1,862,265 people murdered.

I counted the number of people that were killed by God in the Bible. I came up with 2,476,633, which, of course, greatly underestimates God’s total death toll, since it only includes those killings for which specific numbers are given. No attempt was made to include the victims of Noah’s flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, or the many plagues, famines, fiery serpents, etc., with which the good book is filled. Still, 2 million is a respectable number even for world class killers.

One must take into account that this is a book written about an age when violence was common place for many reasons. Wait a minute you would think that after 2,000 years we would have evolved but we are still doing this today.

Of course god should not be above his own laws. One must always lead by example. The simple point of this demonstration is this; why would anyone want to follow a god that claims to be all loving and then kills for the slightest offence. This alone should be enough evidence to demonstrate that god is not real. If god is not real then you will realize that we are responsible for our own actions.

What will it take for people who believe in delusions, fairytales with supernatural claims to actually think for themselves? To think through why they believe in a particular god and why it is so harmful. I really don’t know the answer but I do know that these claims must be challenged because if their god is willing to kill for the slightest offence what will his followers be capable of. I have not witnessed the claim so far that the religions are peaceful as the holy books demonstrate the opposite. Unless the doctrine is peace through violence while eliminating all unbelievers then religions are not advocates of peace.
