Journal Entry #348

February 12th, 2011

This is the fourth entry in a series about people who I feel make a daily difference in the world. I am not focusing on their religious choices or any other criteria except that they have made or are making a positive difference in the world.

Rolf Hansen

Rolf is one of my friends on Face Book, I forget exactly how I met him but I think it was through a discussion on a Christian site. He requested and I explained my agenda. He said he was cool with things and I accepted.

Since then Rolf has demonstrated everything I would value in a Christian. I have no problem with people of faith having the right to have their faith. My problem lies when people take their faith to levels where it is harmful to humanity. While ultimately I think it is not true I will certainly defend the rights of those who believe to believe what they want as long as acting on their faith is not harmful to humanity.

Rolf demonstrates the highest of integrity in his faith. He is non judgemental and expresses the qualities of love exemplifying his beliefs. He has listened or watched everything I have posted and pressed like often. He has never engaged in trying to convince me of anything but leads by example. This I admire. I post some very controversial and provoking art, music, and writing and not a negative word. He always finds the positive in what I present. He looks past his eyes and tries to look through mine.

Rolf is from Cape Town Western Cape and was born in 1941.

This is a typical post from Rolf;

Rolf Hansen

A good day was had today, lovely weather I looked after a friend of mine 9 year old daughter. a pleasure to be with, we went to my brother in-laws factory. Now relaxing with my wife watching TV. Rolf Hansen

One reaches a state of contentment, when you are happy with yourself and with life. I have a great family who love me, I hope? I know my grand kids do. Grand kids are god’s gifts to us. God bless and keep my family safe I love them lots dad and grandfather.

Gary David Currie….. I guess Rolf I am at different stage. No grand kids and I love who I am and my family but I am really disappointed and angry at the situation in the world. At how we treat each other as human beings and I feel I have something to offer to maybe improve this situation. Different stages in life.

Rolf Hansen…… Gary I respect your views and thoughts. You are not just a sheep that follows the heard. You question and look for answers, that is what I like in you, go well my friend love you Rolf.

Gary David Currie…. I just can’t help but like and appreciate who you are Rolf. There is something about you that just calms me. Thanks for your kind words.

When I see something you have written not a rebuttal or negative thought shows up in my mind. it is the weirdest thing and I am real good at like you say not following. You are the only person I have ever experienced this with and I am baffled. I won’t bother trying to explain it I will just enjoy what you offer and what I take from it.

Thanks my friend.

.Rolf Hansen…… My pleasure Gary the reason I like you so much is, you remind me of myself. i also questioned and looked for answers we are very alike, I am just a lot older now. I am glad at how you see me as a person keep well.

I just can’t help but have warm feelings towards Rolf and I will say without knowing that he touches many lives in the same way. If the entire world followed Rolf in their integrity and behaviour the world would be much better off. I for one am better for knowing Rolf. The love he expresses for his wife and family is worthy of emulating. I do not know his past and frankly it is not important, I am basing my opinion on what I have seen over the last 6 months.

Rolf I salute and admire you.

Seek the truth always

Gary David Currie

Gary – this was the sweetest thing I’ve ever read. You could feel the warmth from his words. I found it odd too. A sense of tranquillity almost. :)

  2. Yeah I know. I am mystified by it.

  3. Paul Hansen says:
