Religion;

Ok this will take into account gods and anything to do with deities from a supernatural point of reference.

The bottom line is this; to this day there has not been one single good piece of verifiable evidence to support any of these beliefs and yet we still keep clinging on to this nonsense. I could be respectful and say I really have no way of disproving your god but to be honest I don’t have to, you have to prove it if you believe. If you can’t, keep it to yourself and stop trying to push this nonsense on others, it is nonsense because it is probably not true. As a species we have decided that we all have the right to believe in gods and to our religion but this has its limits. When it affects the overall rights of all human then enough is enough.

So long as this practise of believing in and acting on these beliefs that it has permeated our life’s to the point were it is cancerous, a constant source of problems and misery it must be challenged.  While good people can do things in the name of their religion they can also do terrible things and all the while the person not the god  are doing these acts and this is what must be recognized. We really need to stop this silliness that brings about so much misery. If you want to sit and pretend to yourself go ahead but stop it right there.

It has been proven time and time again that the claims have no merit, no basis in reality and in fact the claims have been well refuted as being true, so stop Ok, grow up, apply some logic, reason and common sense to your life and move on. There really isn’t much more to say as this just needs to stop.

If you saw one of your children continually doing something that was harmful I think you would want them to stop now wouldn’t you.  It is simply based on how we determine reality not true and to think otherwise is to just keep fooling yourself.

Occupy Wall Street;

The global movement for change is awesome and this is obviously something that needs to happen. People are fed up and want change. When the people they entrust to do this are not doing their job then they will take matters into their own hands. I salute this effort as long as it remains non violent.

I do however see this only as a step that we must take but not forget to take the next one. I will compare it to a battered wife. Eventually she gets the courage up to leave and then the hard work begins as she has to figure out why she got in the situation in the first place and how she can avoid it from ever happening again. This is where the movement is at. They want to leave the situation but the road after is the crucial part or the situation will keep happening over and over. I so far have not seen anything that will properly address this step in the process.  I and others have addressed some of those changes but this must be the focus, to have a plan that will work after you leave the situation.

Humans;

We really need to get our shit together. We appear to be getting more and more stupid every day. Time to wise up to all the nonsense and garbage we believe in. When we can’t even agree on simple basic concepts we are in huge trouble. I have hope for our species but I see it getting worse before it gets better.

My solution is this. We need to bring a group of people together who actually care about the species and hash out all the problems, no countries, religions, cultures or any other agendas that divide us. We need to sort it all out and present these findings. I just hope that they are truly in the best interest of the species. We then need to listen to these people. Let’s talk it all out but then get to a point of acceptance and not continual disagreement.

Listen;

We just won’t listen to reason, common sense and logic even though we take advantage of all they have to offer daily we stop when it affects certain parts of our lives. This is the sign of a young arrogant species.

A fool does not learn from mistakes, an idiot keeps doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result but a smart man will continue to learn and grow.

We need to stop being the fool.

Who Hijacked Reality / #564 Are we asking the right questions?

Journal Entry #564

September 15th, 2011

Every once in awhile I find that I need to step back and ask myself am I asking the right questions. I see this not only in myself but others as we get going on an issue, topic or belief we hold dear telling people why we think we are right and why they are wrong.

Maybe we are and maybe we need to take pause in this massive public discourse which the internet has allowed us to engage in and refocus. You know the old example of a ship plotting its course and sailing away but if the course is just off a little the end result will be much further off so one must have a system of checks and balances along the way to adjust the course. I don’t see too much if any of this happening, don’t get me wrong I am probably just as guilty as anyone else of doing this.

I am also not implying that I know what those questions should be but I do think we have enough intelligent people on this planet that we can figure this out but I will give my humble offerings here in my blog;

I do believe humanity is at a stage where we can understand the implications of most of our actions. We have focused on basic issues of survival and answering the big questions like who, what, how, when and where we fit in to the universe but is this enough?

Let me start off with a thought;

It would seem probable based on the beliefs systems off the world that at some point some form of a deity will appear. We have held many of these beliefs in one form or another for a long time and they influence many of the events in humanities daily life’s so what questions should we ask around this?

How will we know when the deity has revealed itself?

Who will represent humanity at this time?

Why is it that the deity has not revealed itself so far?

Will our report to this deity be a positive one?

What will happen to humanity at this point?

Will the deity be willing to answer our questions and help us or will the deity be here to dictate to us?

Who will be our leaders that we feel will best represent us at this time?

Now it would also seem probable based on reason and science that and advanced alien civilization will be discovered or they will discover us at some point or we will discover life that is not as advanced as us at some point. This of course is dependent on the human race not becoming extinct. Based on what we know it is also probable the life is a rare thing in the universe as evident in our own solar system and the fact that at this time we are as far as we know alone in the universe. What will our questions be at this time?

How we will be viewed by a superior alien species?

What kind of new questions will this open up for humanity?

How will we treat an alien species either way?

Will this fill a need we have to be connected?

Will we be willing to listen and be receptive to change?

How will they treat us?

Who will be our leaders that we feel will best represent us at this time?

To me based on how humanity views the world these are 2 outcomes that are possible for our future, Of course there are more but as we cannot go back into the past as we look forward this is where we as a species I see ourselves headed. Now which outcome is more likely will be based on each individuals base for truth and this is where we are now lost in this discussion.

Now this is a discussion we must have and that I am glad we are having, I certainly do not like when it goes beyond discussion into negative actions but I do believe this is also part of the process.

I would hope at some point we can set up a group of people who will represent all of humanity but be willing to be open-minded and have a few basic goals in mind. That this group would be willing to set aside their bias and truly listen to others to offer what will truly be best for us all. This group must also be willing to justify their decisions with good reasons. I would hope they are heading towards the best possible outcome for us all and not the worst.

I think the question “are we asking the right questions” is a good question to start with.

Who Hijacked Reality / #533 Prayer seems to be the focal point for the faithful these days as a tool for righteousness.

Journal Entry #533

August 15th, 2011

Prayer is where it is at these days. It appears that many feel it has the power to change things which of course is not true. This issue has been covered by many and the facts are clear.

If you want to pray you have the right to within your own private life.

The moment prayer is introduced by any religious group within any part of public life then that group is forcing their agenda and beliefs on others and public life is for all.

Prayer has never been proven to work when professed to a deity.

It is clear that to keep public agendas separate from private protects the rights of all  and does not impede upon the rights of people.

I think this clip sums it up;

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgPcAO4icFQ&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

Dan Barker & Tony Perkins debate on FOX News

A question posted on the internet and my response;

  • What is the purpose of prayer? I know a Catholic’s answer. What are some other answers, and why is so ubiquitous a feature of religion so poorly defined?

My response;

The key question is who or what you pray to and are those expectations realistic. Prayer generally defines talking to a deity or connection of some sort beyond who you believe you are. If you are referring to chants or finding your inner voice I have no problem with that as we all continually talk to ourselves but it will be if the prayers you engage in are based in reality or not.

Look personally I believe prayer to be a useless gesture used in desperation that has little if any values for humanity but if it is your thing knock yourself out. All you are doing is like I have said talking to yourself which I do all the time. I am doing it as I write this article.

What I would like to people to stop doing is using it as a weapon to promote their personal cause, when you can prove that it actually works and with real evidence then I will be all for it until then stop pushing this upon others.

I once heard a very close person to me say;

“Religion is the stupidest thing man ever invented.”

Who Hijacked Reality / #482 Science by definition refutes the gods of man as true.

Saturday, June 25th, 2011

Journal Entry #482

June 25th, 2011

If you claim that you understand science and value it as true in any way then claim a belief in the gods of man you really are ignoring science. If you are a scientist and claim a belief in god, any god you are practising bad science. Science by its definition disproves the gods of man as true and that should be all she wrote.

sci·ence

1. a branch of knowledge or study dealing with a body of facts or truths systematically arranged and showing the operation of general laws: the mathematical sciences.

2. systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation.

3. any of the branches of natural or physical science.

Notice the “words body of facts” this is vital to the process of science. Religion or faith does not follow this process it deals with faith. The physical and material world is the reference point because so far that is all we know about. People who believe in god have created an alternate world called the metaphysical world to explain the place where their chosen deity will exist and while this sounds cool and all that there is no verifiable evidence for it so sorry you lose. Not real.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaphysics

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaphysics_(supernatural

First let me clarify that I am not nor do I claim to be a scientist. Trying to mix science and religion will not work as science demands testable verifiable evidence to refute or support a claim. Religion does not as it simply relies on a belief.  So to say there are scientists who believe in god but are credible scientists to me is ridiculous. They would be ignoring the rules of scientific inquiry which leads to truth.

Now of course science has not answered everything or else it would stop and I am in no way saying that there may not be a god like being I am simply referring to the claims of humanity. They have been tested for a long time and any new ones such as Scientology are easily refuted based on the testing methods of reason and science. The idea is to always acknowledge what we do know to discover what we do not know. What many do is the opposite.

For those who try and use science to verify their claims of a god it will fail every time. For exemple the entire Creationist (Intelligent Design movement) has been thoroughly refuted and yet people still ignore the rules of science and continue on in their denial. Take any claim and if you cannot back it up then it has failed and must be considered false until one can bring forth credible evidence. It might be true but cannot be taken as true until verified. This is a real simple concept that many ignore or perhaps they are just not educated or intelligent enough to grasp it.

Science is sceptical by its very nature as we all should be on any matter until we get some good information.

This is a great website I use that is scientifically based. Now again as a sceptic I don’t believe anything I have not verified at face value.

http://www.skepdic.com   the Skeptic’s Dictionary

Science is about exploration and discovery, it is about dreaming and learning but ultimately it is about truth. It is the best method we have to verify if something is true or not. I have asked many to offer me a better method and so far nothing that is reasonable. Sure I have been told that I just will not accept the idea of a different world and that I am a natural man and as I pointed out to those people, I will accept anything that is true because it is true whether I like it or not but I am not going to pretend something is true just because I might want it to be.

Everyone loves science when they need it and they acknowledge it until it refutes something they value. Science makes mistakes because it is driven by people and people make mistakes but that does not discredit the process just the person.

Science Rocks, Religion Sucks!

So no more of the faithful claiming that there are scientists who are credible and believe in their god, they may be a credible scientist in chemistry or another discipline but if they truly valued science they would not believe in god as science has refuted god over and over.

Science is an all the time method not just when you like the results, if it is good enough to provide you a method to read this article such as your computer or Smartphone, If it is good enough to protect you daily, if it is good enough to provide you with almost everything you have in life then it is good enough to answer the question does god exist so accept the answer from the vast majority of scientists. The answer is no..

Who Hijacked Reality / #429 Religion always boils down to one argument.

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

Journal Entry #429

May 2nd, 2011

After looking at all the evidence for gods existence be it Allah, the Christian god or any deity that is claimed by humanity there really is no verifiable evidence that is strong enough to support the claim. It always reverts to one basic argument and this is the argument from ignorance or faith.

I have at one time or another refuted all the basic arguments for gods existence and so have many others who have done a much better job than I have but still people will eventually fall back to this position in defence of their personal god of choice.

The position is this;

You cannot prove god does not exist so until you do I will believe it to be true, I will have faith in my god. That`s it there really is nothing more to it. This is absolutely the worst reason to take something as true and yet billions of people do it. Once the delusion is accepted then from there it is about legitimizing the faith. There is no talking or convincing someone who want to believe until they are willing to listen to reason. Once they are willing to listen to reason and accept reality then there is no reason to believe in what is probably not true.

There are several desires that fuel the belief depending on the chosen god and none of them are based in reality. It gets crazy as the delusion deepens and the layers of the onion get thicker and thicker.

The evidence is very weak for the existence of any god and the obvious proof of this is that one has to have faith in the first place. If there really was credible evidence faith would not be a requirement. What I have just said is very important and probably the most profound statement I can make.

Think of all the millions if not gazillions of things we cannot proof or disprove and then tell me how many of them you take as true. So if you are a believer why don`t you take those things as true? What propels you to think that despite no verifiable evidence (and please don’t tell me that there is credible evidence because even though you think there is there is not) what you believe is true. No, I am not being arrogant even though you may think I am and I am sure you as a believer will deny what I am saying as long as it can be reasonably refuted you have not met the burden of proof for your claim so it is probably not true. Yet still people will believe.

I am certainly not naive in any way to think that I can change a believers mind but that will not change what is true. Based on the fact that the burden of proof has not been met for the claim of god it is probably not true and that is a very high degree of probability.

Faith in the sense in believing something to be true despite any credible evidence is ridiculous. So I urge people to stop basing their life on false desires.

Until people are willing to use reason and science as a grounding for reality they will continue to fall back on the argument from ignorance no matter what I or anyone else says. That is reality.

If you scan through my blog posts that I have spent the last year writing you will find a common theme and I do believe every argument presented for god refuted. If you have a new argument to offer I am more than willing to listen but I will warn you that my bullshit meter is finely tuned so make it a good one. I have spent the last year promoting truth and positive solutions for the problems I believe delusional thinking leads to.  I also realize I am in the minority and in many cases will be hated for my view but that is fine as I believe I am in good company.

The truth is that faith in god is grounded in ignorance.
