Who Hijacked Reality / #645 When do we give up?

Journal Entry #645

April 24th, 2012

This is a dilemma, when do we give up, throw in the towel and say enough is enough?

I would say never but is it wise to never say never? This will of course be up to the individual and who am I to say that they should not give up. I will offer two qualifiers as a guide;

1.  The goal should be realistic.

2. The goal should be attainable.

Once I have used these guidelines I personally am like a pit-bull and it will take a lot for me to give up. I may appear to give in to a situation but that does not mean I give up. If it is worthy I will pursue it.

When it comes to the ones we love we see the real dilemma. When do we give up on them? If my son was in trouble half way around the world would I stop at some point and not help him. I really could not live with myself if I did this. I am in this situation now with another loved one as that person has given up so should I?

I realize I have no control over what they do nor do I want any but I see the situation taking place for all the wrong reasons and to give up on them at this point is difficult. I will not chase and I will not have the illusion that I can change anything as this must come from them but I made a commitment in so many ways and if I give up on them I give up on my commitment to them. So what kind of a person am I if I do not honour my commitments even if they do not honour theirs?

Without our word our integrity then who are we…..

Powerful Inspirational true story…Don’t give up!

I would not hesitate to do this for my sons and others I love and I would hope we all feel this way.

I get told all the time that I should just let it go but they are not me and I must live with myself.

At the end of the day as I put my head on my pillow I must be happy with my choice and for me it is not giving up on what I value. I would hope that there are those who would not give up on me as well.

So when do we give up? I believe if you valued it in the first place then the answer should be never if it is based on the 2 parameters I offered. We must have hope in life or else life is not worth living.

The moment we give up may very well be the moment we should not have given up..

Who Hijacked Reality / #622 The choices we make….

Journal Entry #622

December 2nd, 2011

Each day we all make many choices and sometimes we realize the consequences and sometimes we don’t but I do believe we will always do what we feel is best for us at that moment.

I believe we are limited in our choices as we have no control over what others do and what the natural world will do so we are confined within our view of the universe, of the planet and of the world that we surround our self with.

Delaying a choice is still a choice and once one realizes this it becomes easier to make choices that will have a better chance at positive results than negative. Often choices we make will decide the choices others must make and then they now must decide their options based on their inability to choose for others.

Life certainly seems complicated at times but if I can break it down I may offer to you that it really is simple. A problem or dilemma at times may seem overwhelming at times but if you are able to see the core or foundational choice that will determine either a problem being solved or continuing to be a problem then that will be the choice you make. From there you make choices in that direction.

This is what I see as the hard part for many; they do not see reality in the situation and if you are trying to include unrealistic options the choice will have unrealistic results.

Each problem we face is dealt with this system; At times we may bypass some steps very quickly but this will be the thought process. We may bounce back and forth between these steps or we may never get to the final step which will not allow the problem to be solved but nevertheless this will be the process. You can acknowledge this process which will give you a better chance at solving the problem or you can deny it and the problem will not be solved, your choice.

The 5 stages; Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance

http://grief.com/the-five-stages-of-grief

Now these stages are usually associated with loss and death but I do believe they have a much wider application and are vital in most problem solving. I must point as the article does that the stage of acceptance does not preclude everything being rosy and peachy it allows one to reach a stage where they can realistically deal with the problem and find a solution that will help them move on to the next daily event in life without carrying the weight of the previous problem. No matter what it is, no matter how big or how small this process is vital.

No one escapes this process, no matter how strong or confident you think you are we will all go through this and to recognize this as valid is a great start to a healthy mind which leads to a healthy life.

So realistically we need to get to a stage where we realize what we can control, what we have influence over and what we do not. This has been offered in many different ways from many different cultures in the form of prayer, affirmations and just general wisdom and to deny this process is unrealistic and the first part of the process.

Find those that can guide you, help you and have your best interests at heart and this will help you get through the process and onto the next stage of your life.

Personally I try and be as realistic and rational as possible and when faced with problems I acknowledge this process as true and do my very best to work my way through it.

Life is not fair, we do not always get what we want in fact I would say most of the time we don’t but the idea is to find the best possible happiness. How you do this will be your journey and how I do it will be mine I just hope we all have a great journey along the way.

So think about your choices carefully and the consequences of that choice both negative and positive before you make it but remember once a choice is made it cannot be unmade.

Who Hijacked Reality / #619 The eternal human dilemma…

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

Journal Entry #619

November 22nd, 2011

What is this dilemma I speak off and how could I possibly know what it is? Good questions…

I don’t claim to know but I will venture to take an educated guess.

We all think we are right and we feel no one else is listening to what we are saying. I am sure there is not one person who is capable of understanding this concept who has not felt this way at one point or another in their lives.

How do we get past this?

We can’t both be right if we disagree but we can both be wrong”. This saying and I could not find the source of if I am quoting it exactly sums it up. It really doesn’t matter what we believe to be right or true what is important is if we can verify it or prove it beyond a reasonable doubt.

I see this dilemma in so many aspects of my life and the life’s of others as we all want to be heard, we all want to feel important and what better way of achieving that feeling than to be right on something. It feels good to have accurate knowledge on something. I am no exception to this.

What I would like to clarify with me is that I hope I am at stage in my life where it is not about being right but about acknowledging what is true whether I am right about something or not. Why is this important? Well at times it is not but I will say most of the time it is because if we follow something or believe in something that is not true I will say it will eventually provide negative results. The truth is important as it leads to trust and if we do not have trust in things again it will be difficult to act with positive results. We can trust what is not true but I do believe we are just fooling ourselves by doing this.

If I am wrong on something I deem important I would like to know as I want my beliefs and my journey to be as true as possible.

I guess it mystifies me why people want to live in a delusional state as eventually the fantasy will end. At some point the party stops and the after effects of the party always bring back reality, hard. Eventually the drug wears off, the beer glasses refocus and we have to deal with our actions.

So how do we figure out who is right and who is wrong? This is the problem as the method one accepts to do this; to validate what is true will determine their actions. It appears that too many use a method which distorts reality and we see the problems daily. The only method we have so far that has a good track record is the scientific process and yet many deny this process in favour of their version. It is not being right that should be important but what is true.

Because I use this and so many don’t my method has been an affront on those I interact with and I find this sad because I personally only want what is true as the truth has demonstrated its value in accepting it.

We need to listen to each other as this is very important but the companion to this is when we talk for others to listen we must try and talk with what is true as our focus.

Without truth we are living a lie and that is the truth..

Journal Entry #421

April 224th, 2011

I am interested in how a person can rectify this dilemma which I actually hear more than I want to;

God is always right but man makes mistakes and is fallible. Well the obvious conclusion to this is that man could be wrong about god. So if you can be wrong how can you possibly be absolutely sure that god is right or that anything you believe about god is right?

Watch the 2 videos below and then we will talk.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYtYQ0a7btQ&feature=youtu.be

How Christians Brainwash kids with creationism

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEv2-ocFYUQ

Class On Islam In Germany

I could write a book on the issues these 2 videos present, the fallacies and just outright lies but I think most of you can figure out the obvious on your own. I will say that brainwashing young people and children with religious doctrine is just wrong.

My focus here will be on the idea that children and humans in general need to know that they have a choice, they need to understand that critical thinking skills allow them to decide for themselves and that they are under no obligation to be told what to think.

A dose of reason will quickly put  the ideas that are presented in these videos in the realm of dumbass but the very idea that each religion presents their god is the one and only authority on all things in life is scary as hell. Children should be taught how to think not what to think.

I keep trying to get across to the faithful that until god any god actually comes down here and tells us what the bible or Quran actually means it will all be interpretation, all subjective and since we are creatures that can be easily fooled we can certainly be wrong on what we believe is true. Well they bypass these by saying;

I can be wrong but I follow he who cannot be wrong.

The stupidity in this statement is astounding but this is the basis of religious faith. The very idea that god is always right is self serving and circular logic.

God said it, I believe it, that settles it!

This is about as stupid as it gets. Now we have to determine exactly what it is that god is saying and the fact that there are so many versions of god and even within a certain faith different interpretations testifies to the stupidity of this. Within the Christian faith alone there are 38,000 different denominations each following a different version of what god says all thinking they have the right one.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christian_denominations

Once an individual realizes that they have the power to think for themselves everything changes, the spell is broken and the questioning begins as it should. The control mechanism presented so well in these videos falls prey to reason. The vast majority of believers I would say are ignorant to the facts that surround life and want to remain blind to the opposition of their delusions. There really is no sane argument that supports an absolute belief in god or anything else that easily falls under a dose of reality.

I would like to see Critical Thinking taught alongside reading, writing and arithmetic as a basic skill in life. This allows the individual to feel empowered to not only realize they are making their own choices but to also be responsible for those choices.

Critical thinking; It has been described in a much more comprehensive sense as “the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skilfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_thinking

Now this is exactly what any authority based doctrine does not want as this will lead to dissention as it should. If something is not true it should not be taken as true and all things should be put to the test. You don’t have to be a philosopher or a scientist to apply the basics of this principal.

Once some general skills are a acquired one could easily refute the doctrine and dispute the facts that are presented in these videos.

Let’s take evolution for an example. Ken Ham http://creationmuseum.org director of the Creation Museum and Answers in Genesis who is the main speaker in this video presents a distorted and incredibly narrow minded view of what evolution truly is. The very idea that he shows that your grandmother is not a monkey is ridiculous. A quick tutorial on what evolution really is will dispel this and many other ridiculous points he makes. The very idea that dinosaurs and humans lived at the same time falsifies so much science that is beyond intellectually dishonest.

What he believes has no bearing on the facts but that is not what he teaches, he teaches what he would like to be true because the real doctrine behind his message is this; If just one thing in the bible is not true then the possibility for all things to not be true exists and that is just unacceptable so it must be taken literally. The biggest hurdle the bible presents is a creation storey as all the verifiable evidence shows this as false. That is why he and many others spend so much time trying to verify creation even though it has been proven time and time again that evolution is a fact and that creation is a myth.

To say “who are you going to believe god or the scientist” is another masterfully stupid statement. This if followed creates ignorance and stupidity as it is science that has given us our greatest achievements. Of course the kids will just do as they are told and enjoy the cool pictures and fun music but this is neglect through and through.

The “god says it so it must be true” defence and doctrine must be shown for what it truly is, stupidity. We don’t need soldiers of god, any god we need productive intelligent members of the human race so we can move in a positive direction for mankind.

Ken and all those advocating this doctrine should be ashamed of themselves and the parents who buy into this nonsense need to learn the skill of critical thinking themselves.

I find it funny how they will only take the things that they like that god said and then excuse away all the nasty stuff in the bible and there is plenty of the nasty.

The argument from ignorance keeps rearing its head everywhere I turn.

Let me offer a different version of the god says it argument;

I think that god said it but I don’t really know so I will say it the way I would like god to say it and then tell everyone that god said it hoping that they believe me thinking that it was really god that said it.

Who Hijacked Reality / #247 Another logical question for The Faithful. What does god do all day?

Journal Entry # 247

November 8th, 2010

Let’s say I buy into the theory that god created the universe. He is the intelligent designer. This only leads to many more questions that I feel compelled to ask.

Here is a question I never hear Christians answer and as far as I know there is no answer for it in the bible;

You say that god created everything but why did god create everything and where was he before everything was created? Was he in the nothing? If he created everything then he is part of everything so how did he create himself. …At what point did god become self aware and where was he when he did this?

If you tell me that god has always existed then he did not create everything. So the question becomes how did god spring into existence? If everything has a purpose then what is gods’ purpose?

405220-god_approve_war_we_can_t_ask_god_think_answer_be

What does god do all day? We all have to do something that is the nature of existing.

Does god breathe?

Does God have to shave?

Does god eat or go to the toilet?

What does god do for entertainment?

What does god look like?

How big is god?

How can god know love unless he also knows hate?

What purpose does humanity serve in god existence?

These may sound like silly questions to you if you are a believer but they make perfect sense to me. If you are going to tell me that gods ways are higher than ours then you better tell me what you think those ways are. I really am not interested in this silly answer and I am not surprised but baffled that people would just accept things without question. You seem to have questions for the rest of the religions and those who are not.

I await any reasonable answers to the dilemma I have posed.

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

Epicurus

I do not think it is necessary to believe that the same God who has given us our senses, reason, and intelligence wished us to abandon their use, giving us by some other means the information that we could gain through them.

Galileo Galilei

I really am interested in the answer to the question; who created God. I just realized I know the answer we did.
