From the movie “The Day the Earth Stood Still”;

“It’s only on the brink that people find the will to change only at the precipice do we evolve”.

Behind the Scenes on the Movie: The Day The Earth Stood Still

Are we just plain lazy or stupid if we can see problems before they arise and do nothing about them? Will this be our downfall? Is it arrogant to think we can continue on doing what we do without any consequences?  Is this human trait unavoidable or can we change?

I’m no different than anyone else I do these things as well, procrastinate, make unhealthy choices knowing full well the consequences but still doing it anyways and then like many others beating myself up for those poor choices when  the consequences are evident. So we obviously need to evolve to be proactive in our choices but the thing that gets me is that we have an incredibly hard time learning from our past mistakes as we keep repeating them and fooling ourselves that we are not.

I see some key traits that we must change as a species in order to evolve.

We must learn to stop being so self absorbed.

We must learn to agree.

We must learn to value and acknowledge the truth and reality.

We must stop lying to ourselves which in turn will stop us lying to others.

We must learn to listen not just hear and value those who have more knowledge and insight than the rest.

We must chose our leaders based on better criteria.

We must learn to live for the future while living in the moment.

We must stop dividing and start uniting while maintaining both our individuality and diversity.

We must be proactive not reactive.

We are an intelligent species but I do believe we think we are more intelligent than we are. Instead of having awe and wonder for the natural world, the planet that sustains us and all this encompasses we think we can actually control it and shape it to our will. This is an illusion. We need to humble ourselves or the planet will do it for us. It may very well be too late already.

Solutions to our problems are at hand and yet we just won’t listen. Were like a bunch of 15 years olds trying to get attention in high school.

Who Hijacked Reality / #187 Christians, Atheists–so engrossed in proving the other wrong.

Journal Entry # 187

September 10th. 2010

Yesterday while I was having a conversation with one of the faithful someone chirped in with the  below comment. Now I was just getting to know the person I was talking with only involved in maybe 4 or 5 comments.

Angry  person……….Good grief. This is stupid. Doesn’t anybody ever wonder why these debates go on? They’ve been going on for millennia, and nobody gets anywhere, and nobody is benefitted in any way by them. Who is helping anything, here? Fucking Christians, fucking Atheists–so engrossed in proving the other wrong, and meanwhile the world is going to pot. How ’bout doing something good for the world? So you don’t believe in God. So what? Or you do believe in God. So what? Get out there and do something that actually makes a difference.

Gary David Currie ……. Wow Laura very judgemental. This is not about being right or wrong this is bout opening up civil, respectful conversation that leads to change that is positive. My goal is to open this up so we can stop the terrible things that are done in the name of religion. I actually do tons of things that make a difference and so will this. If we don’t address the root problems nothing will ever change.

go to my website thefreeman.net to see the solutions I offer. I have been volunteering and making a difference locally my entire life. I now am concentrating on this the problem,  believing and acting on lies.

Try not to judge before you ask questions but thanks for your advice. I am a business man, musician, blogger, writer and my ultimate goal is to build bridges in spite of our diversity.

This is not stupid this is the key to change. Most misery is rooted in diluted beliefs from religion to tribal.

Christian I was talking with……….Laura who says we are not doing good, we are not to brag about the good that we do. Talking about things is not a wrong thing.

This person in completely missing the point, I have spent a long time trying to figure out exactly what the root problems are and although I might be wrong I feel I am on the right track. I feel that believing in lies is the root problem. For example to deny that global warming is real and that we are influencing the process by speeding it up is a root problem. You have to be lying to yourself to ignore the evidence that is very credible and real. The same applies to religious ideals. In my opinion they are rooted in lies and the results are harmful. This is evident all over the world on a daily basis.

I would be lying to myself if I thought I could change peoples’ minds on any given issue but what I can do is offer to talk, to challenge these ideals and to get the critical thinking process flowing. I believe if we engage in this as a species we will be moving towards the opportunity to change for the better.  I cannot literally go to every country that has problems and help so I do what I feel will be the most productive and that is speaking out. I am not trying to win these discussions I am trying to open up respectable conversation so that eventually we will value each other in spite of our differences. Of course I feel that what I am presenting is the truth but I am well aware I could be wrong.

We must talk; we must open up the dialogue. It is when we feel above this and engage in righteousness that things are dangerous.

Who Hijacked Reality / #140 Diversity it is very important.

Can you imagine if everyone on this planet believed in the same thing? Imagine if we were all Mormons, everyone on the planet walking around in the same white shirt and black tie, with the same haircut saying the same thing. Whose door would they knock on then?

Diversity_Matters_photo_without_wording__

Why is diversity important? What is funny is that most of us including myself are actually trying to get people to think the way we do. We all think that we have the answers and that we are right and everyone else is wrong. I am glad it is this way I would not want a world where everyone thought the way I do. How boring would it be to argue with myself daily?

Diversity is not the problem the problem is when we try to impose that diversity on others through force from violence to mind control. I firmly believe in free speech and free thought as long as it does not impose on the established rights of others. Why do certain people feel they have the right to dictate what others will do even thought those people are not interested in what they are imposing. These are all excellent ethics questions which I will and have discussed over the life of this blog.

We have diversity in culture, religious believes, ethical beliefs, and in appearance. IO am sure I am not covering everything but I think most things will fit into these categories of art.

The Moonies choose who you marry  in a massive ceremony.

Diversity helps create struggle and leads to accomplishment. It fulfills our desires and shows us our hopes. What great things would we have lost if it were not for diversity? Would Beethoven or Mozart have been able to create their great works? Would I even have anything to talk about in this blog? Would you have anything to talk about?

Diversity lends to change and change is inevitable. So let’s celebrate diversity as long as it does not involve the things that as a society we believe are harmful that are based in truth. As a species we love our celebration that is part of our diversity.

The diversity of religion.

We also have a hard time accepting the differences of others as individuals, families, communities and global . This is important to overcome for us appreciate those differences. These are part of the things that make us human. These are the things that believing in a god stops from flourishing.

“I celebrate diversity but not at the expense of my humanity.”

Journal Entry # 14

February 10, 2010

Every once in awhile someone will say to me that I am very brave to say the things I do or that they admire what I am doing  because they fell the same way I do but they would never say anything. This is a sad state and although I appreciate the support I feel as long as we continue to view religious beliefs or anything that involves not acknowledging the truth we will continue to stall as a species. Still to this day many hold these ideals on a pedestal as being untouchable. I truly think they are laughable and the fact that we take them seriously in any form is ridiculous.

There are also many people out there willing to tell you that you will never accomplish what it is you have set out to do. I basically have laid out a set of ideals that let you dispose of your harmful ideals. I would hope at the very least one would be willing to learn but that is not the case. I have decided that I need to ask a new question. What is it that allows people to continue to do the same thing over and over even when they see it is not working?

I realize that not everyone in the world will be doers because let’s face it most people are just not willing to take the chances they perceive it takes to stick your neck out. Personally I think it is a tragedy going through your life never standing up for anything worthwhile. I applaud anyone who stands for what they believe in whether I agree with it or not as long as there is no violence or destructive behaviour involved.

I certainly would not want to live in a world where everyone followed the same ideals. We need diversity and challenge to ideals. We also need descent but at the end of the day whatever is decided must be done from a perspective of truth.

If you are a doer I applaud you if you are not that is fine as well because at some point in your life we all have to be a doer whether we like it or not just do it with passion and respect.
