Who Hijacked Reality / #566 Mind games, people just love to play them.

Journal Entry #566

We just love to play those mind games.

As humanity has evolved and become self aware this has often presented many problems as well as offered many solutions to life. A basic problem I see is that with ability to see beyond the moment in the moment, in other words to envision the unknown we often lose track of what is known as the basis for reality. We go off into imagination land, speculation land, the game of “what ifs” and the world of fantasy as our guide in life. While it is vital to have a healthy imagination as this helps us in so many ways we don’t have to use this as a tool to mind fuck others.

I see this so often in discussions where people will just not give an inch and bring the conversation back to reality. You see when arguing from a position of speculation or fantasy it will become endless as there will always be another thing to imagine and people use this to never concede or settle a point. This allows one to not accept reality on realities terms and continue to speculate until all possibilities are exhausted which of course will never happen in the land of what ifs.

Basically I am saying that at times we are too smart for our own good as we do not know when to stop when it comes to speculation. Next thing you know we are believing the fantasies we have created as true, then we are creating more fantasies to justify the initial ones and the game never ends. At some point we need to come back to reality.

Let me give you an example; if I take the last thing I said here we can go from there. What is reality is anything really real? For all I know we could be just part of a giant intelligent computer game and that computer could be inside another computer game all inside my imagination.

So this is all possible but not probable based on what we know and that is the key ingredient here, what we do know. Now what we do know as I have said many times before is not absolute but the best guess we have so far and we need to accept this until there is a better guess.

In accepting this so many things we believe to be true will immediately be rendered false or we can just keep going and go down the road of fantasy. If you do not accept reality then you will continually be playing mind games, let me break it down.

The truth is always easier to talk about as when you talk with lies you are continually trying to cover up and justify each lie with another lie. This will eventually if not sooner break down as reality dictates this, so the basis for reality and reality itself actually tries to bring us back from fantasy.

Have you ever tried to tell a lie and then realized that your lie would be exposed so you cover it up with another lie and then keep going. The odds are that this will fall into itself at some point so why do it when it is much easier to just tell the truth in the first place.

Mind games are not healthy if used to justify a lie as the truth and we need to acknowledge this as a species.

Who Hijacked Reality / #509 Time, you can’t see it but you know it is real.

Time, what is it?

Typed in Google;

The indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole.

How do we know time is real? I often hear believers in god say to me as proof that god exists that I can’t prove love or pain and yet we know they exist and I would also put time in with these examples but of course we can prove it.

How do we fit into time? Good question right. It is just part of our life, part of the universe that we must contend with, we must acknowledge. We have no control over it. Time is what takes us from moment to moment otherwise nothing would exist as nothing would be able to advance which is crucial to existence.

It is a constant in this universe and no matter what you do you cannot avoid it. When we look at time on different scales it takes on different importance but what we are really concerned about is the time we each have on this planet. We realize quickly as we have advanced to the point of understanding the concept of time that we really don’t have much time. It is the most precious thing we deal with. The older we get the more value we place on it. Time is the great equalizer as we all exist in the same time.

Can we waste time? No but we can waste what we do with the time we have and we are exceptionally good at this. How do we solve this problem? Easy we create fantasies that we trick ourselves into thinking will give us more time, in fact infinite an infinite amount.

We do not learn from our time already spent  and continue to engage in wishful thinking about time. You will do with your time what you chose to and I have no say in this but it is beyond me why people continue to spend their time imagining that they have more time as that is what religion and gods are really about.

These fantasies are always trying to beat the universe which is just ridiculous. The universe doesn’t really care about us only we do. The Earth will continue to do what the Earth will do until it stops and we are just a blip in its time.

I suggest we make better use of the time we have here to further the betterment of mankind to bring about the best possible happiness of all of us instead of the moving towards the worst possible misery.

Personally I think the beat thing we can do to kick start this is to stop believing in silly fantasies such as gods.

If you ask the vast majority of scientists, intellectuals and academics about their belief in god or religion they will say that they really don’t give it a second thought. This should tell you something as you don’t give a second thought to fairies and pixies.

50 Renowned Academics Speaking About God

These are the people we should be listening to not the ones who profess to be connected with god.

Time will march on and we as a species can change how we spend the little time we have on this fantastic planet. The first step is to acknowledge what is actually true instead of following what is obviously not.

Time is real so stop trying to beat time and just enjoy time.

Who Hijacked Reality / #413 I’m pissed off…

Journal Entry #413

April 17th, 2011

Today was one of those days where even though I realize how the world works, I realize the rules of the universe but it still pisses me off. I know things are not fair and reality most of the time sucks for most people and I just have those days where I feel helpless to do anything. I know it is ridiculous to even feel that I can do anything of any value but I do anyways.

I am pissed off…

That everyday 22,000 children die. That most of these deaths were preventable and that through no fault of their own they were born into a world that did not care.

That everyday billions of people ignore reality and engage in destructive fantasy thinking and then think that all others who do not share in their fantasy are the problem. Even when verifiable, testable, reasonable and logical evidence is presented to them that they chose to continue to engage in their fantasies.

That no matter how much I want to I have absolutely no control over the misery in this world, that I must accept the reality that the universe has dictated and that I am bound by its rules.

That humanity will engage in improving their lives while not giving a shit about the lives of others. That some if not more will actually benefit from the misery of others and that this will probably not change.

That very few will ever listen but will expect all others to listen to them and if reading this will think that is exactly what I am doing.

That we have the capacity as a species to change everything for the better but will not chose this. That we will continue to make the same mistakes over and over and not learn from our past.

That so many will not only believe in gods but be willing to act on the perceived commands of their gods when all common sense, all reason and logic and the evidence demonstrate that their gods simply are not real.

That when I agree with people I am in their good books and they listen but when I do not agree they find every excuse they can imagine but the actual issue. That I know become the focus  and that this type of behaviour is engaged in discourse all over the planet which takes focus away from the real issued and actually solving them.

That my fellow humans just don’t give a shit as a whole about each other, this is sad beyond words.

I ‘m pissed off that I feel pissed off about so many things that we can actually make better.

I’m pissed off that we just keep believing in and acting on lies which make absolutely no sense to me.

Really it’s not too hard to have a better world for us all but we just refuse to actually give a shit until the tsunami is rolling in.

Who Hijacked Reality / #210 Why do people believe in the supernatural?

Journal Entry # 210

October 3rd, 2010

Whether ghosts exist or gods exist or anything supernatural will either be true or not true. It doesn’t really matter how much we believe in something it will not change the outcome towards it being true. So why do we believe in concepts or things that have no credible evidence in reality?

Well there are many who will say that it is reality but I will require evidence that  is verifiable before I accept anything as true.

The supernatural beliefs seem to be as varied as the mind can imagine. We love to create fantasies to help us escape our perceived reality. Everything from god to sci-fi, from ghosts to demons, from aliens to superheroes. Why do we believe? Now most of the time we know when it is just fantasy something we are indulging in for a momentary escape but there are many who will take these fantasies as true. Of course to them it is reality. They will swear that their house is haunted with many unexplained noises or events. Why jump to these conclusions when logic and reason will dictate that this is not true.

supernatural_web

This process is not limited to supernatural entities or events it can be applied to anything that is not true. For example ignoring all the signs of a cheating spouse or conspiracy theorists display the same delusional process. Is this a mental disorder or just the desire to have a different reality?

Let me first say that following the principal of truth and how we acknowledge it will determine what it is we believe in. I also follow the ideal that all things we do we do for selfish reasons. It is all about us.

I realize reality certainly can suck most of the time. For many on this planet being alive is not an overall positive experience when you approach each day in reality. This is a reason that people will try to avoid reality and create delusions. It is more comforting to believe in something that alleviates this discomfort than to often deal with it. Is this a good way to go through life? I believe it is not but many do or else they would not do it.

Since it is all about us we want the best possible life we can possibly have even if it is not real. In the case of religion if you add in all the magical elements it can be very intoxicating. To believe that you will live forever, that all your prayers will be answered and that there is a guiding force taking care of you even when it appears it is not.

reality

I do believe the most basic reason we believe in the supernatural or related lies is that it makes us feel important. We all want this in one form or another. It is this need that drives us each day. We are constantly looking for it from any source negative or positive. We all desire to be needed, to be important.

I submit that you can find this in reality. All things desired in a delusional world can at their root be found in reality.  Although I cannot say with 100% certainty that the supernatural world does not exist I can say that in or framework of reality it does not. The evidence is just not there. I suggest we stop  deluding ourselves and embrace the natural world that you probably exist in whether you acknowledge it or not. Imagine the barriers that will tumble when we all do this.

Who Hijacked Reality / #192 Video games are awesome.

Journal Entry # 192

September 15th, 2010

To all those people in this world who say that video games are harmful to children I say you are literally stupid. I love playing video games. I play them with my kids and I play them with my wife. If you think that violent video games are the cause of violent acts you are wrong. I have been playing video games since they were invented. I have watched with excitement as each new wave and system was introduced.

super-mario

We have played games from Mario to Call of Duty. Here is the thing; I played the video games with my kids as they grew up. We did not use them as a babysitter they were a form of entertainment for the family. We explained what was real and what was not as they grew older. I still play games with my kids and they are not young anymore. My children are not violent and I fell they are well balanced. We also were involved in many other activities as well such as sports, music and just time with the family. This gave us the opportunity to enjoy ourselves and be the example to our children that we wanted to be.

The whole idea is to be able to distinguish the difference between fantasy and reality. What is so wrong with pretending you are killing a perceived enemy in a video game? When you know it is not real then it just becomes part of a game. You know that you are not really killing a person it is just a pixelated pretend version of a person.  In real life you should be aware of the consequences of these actions and I believe we are.

call-of-duty-4

Video games in my opinion vastly improve you problem solving skills which certainly help you in life. It is just a form of entertainment. Interactive fantasy. I love playing video games and anyone who is actively campaigning to ban them is a person who has never really tried them because there is a type of game for everyone.

Video games are awesome. Enjoy the experience and just realize it is a fantasy and in this case fantasies are cool. Besides video games have been here to stay for along time.
