Journal Entry # 333

We are so busy trying to deal with our day to day problems that we lose sight of why those day to day problems actually happen. Now of course there will always be those daily things that we must deal with as this is part of life but there are many problems that we actually create for ourselves that can certainly be avoided.
In my limited time on this earth I have concluded that we cause most of our own misery as a species. We continually act on and believe in lies or things that simply are not true. We follow the same ideals and systems that just don’t work over and over again expecting a different result. This is the definition of stupidity.
Common sense and reason are ignored by many in favour of temporary perceived gain. Reality is twisted to justify belief systems that just do not work or are not true and then when we see the results of these lies we try and change the outcome without actually changing the root cause. I address the root causes but the vast majority of people will not accept the truths that are so evident.
There will always be little or big fires to put out and actually fire is an important part of the evolutionary process but if we really want change we have to figure out what is causing all these fires and remove the ignition source.
I think this conversation will demonstrate my point. Let me say I respect the person I was talking to here. Although they are a believer they still inject reason and sanity into their thoughts.
Christian…….Gary, I am only stating the obvious truth that not all Christian’s think the same, and that one CANNOT read the bible as if it contained no contradictions because the fact is it DOES. One must also be able to distinguish between what …was customs for the times, and needs to be left in those times and what is meant to be timeless. The abominations you quoted are believed by many scholars to refer to the raping of men by other men which was quite common. An abomination just as eating shrimp or women to simply wear the clothes of men. You simply CANNOT take these passages literally today. For these reasons, anyone serious enough to take up Christianity or any other religion needs to come to terms with this. It is NOT a simple owners manual for a car which IS to be taken literally all of the way through. Man wrote the bible, man is flawed, thus the bible is flawed in some ways. I post the horrors of what I see when others who claim to be Christians do horrific things. If you read what Jesus tells his followers what is needed to follow him you see a real emphasis on love, and a rejection of much of the material world. He even tells his followers to pray in private and not to make a spectacle of themselves by praying publically. His message is fairly straightforward and does not really on arguing about scripture meaning. He used some metaphors to make some points but by and large he told people to love each other as he had loved them and that how we treat the least among us is how we can be expect to be treated by God.
Now I have no interest in debating the whole does God exist or not thing because obviously one cannot win this debate. You cannot simply say he does not exist because you see no proof that would hardly stand up in court if you wanted to condemn those who believed. And similarly I cannot point to God and show the jury my proof if I wanted to condemn unbelievers. No, we are stuck in these most difficult of times and need to have the believers and non-believers to work side beside to right the ship or the planet is indeed doomed.
Gary David Currie….. I agree (not on everything but the general principal) and well said. But I will continue to champion what is probably true because I think this will eventually offer us our best chance as a species.
Gary David Currie….. One more thing what you are stating about not being able to prove god is real or not is called proving a negative and you are right. The problem with this is that there is plenty of evidence while not 100% conclusive that does prove that god is not real and we ignore what we know in favour of what we do not. It is an argument you avoid and that is your right but it is the argument that must be discussed whether you like it or not. Not here with you but with humanity.
Truth should be the ultimate goal.
Christian …..Well with all due respect Gary, I don’t think we have the luxury of free time to debate or argue the intangible, there are WAY too many things that ARE tangible to be dealt with LOL I think we have a much better chance of trying to convince believers how to keep their beliefs where they belong than to try to convince them not to believe. And hopefully we can use a lot of reason and truth to do it my friend….
Gary David Currie …..Again I agree but not with all. There will always be immediate problems, fires to put out. That is exactly the reason we need to address the root causes so that we can permanently put out the source of these fires or else they will continue …to happen indefinitely.
You say it is fruitless to try and convince believers and that is probably true that is why I champion truth and I actually believe that this hope lies with the youth of our world.
You call it intangible and that is simply not true because we have plenty that is tangible that verifies what is true. If we get rid of the smoke screens we can finally see the cause of the fire. What you say is not important I say is the most important. Not just in regards to religion but I feel with all the lies we follow.
Again what you say is the intangible is actually the justification for all the problems you see as tangible.
With all due respect. I value your thoughts and opinions.
Christian….Well Gary, I will leave you with this thought: for me, the most important thing in my country is to get our huge population of voters to finally realize we CANNOT sustain the amount of $$ in our defence budget, we CANNOT continue to have troops around the world, we CANNOT continue to have our foreign policy be one of “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” If we DONT come to grips with this economic reality, then we will to continue to be delusional morons, watching our neglected infrastructure crumble, and libraries, police and fire departments shrink at the time we will need them the most as we become a dog eat dog society. The great science fiction writers saw all too well what we humans would be reduced to. We are the Titanic, and going down fast……
Gary David Currie …….Agreed and understood.. I will leave you with this. As long as we keep building Titanic’s that crash into icebergs things will never change” It is time to build a better boat.
We need all voices yours and mine. You want to fix the broken car and I want to design or create a car that doesn’t break down as much by acknowledging why the cars we have are always breaking down.
