Journal Entry # 314

Ok I recently have been involved with discussions or debate about the validity of the flood story and Noah’s Ark being true. I am not the first one to write about this or see the fallacy it represents so I have linked sources that offer credible evidence.

If you have credible evidence that refutes what I present I would love to see it otherwise if you are a believer I will assume you go with the magic in your calculations and of course there is no ultimate way to refute magical thinking

Biblical account; http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis+5%3A32-10%3A1&version=NIV

The flaws in this story as we relate them to reality are vast. The challenges in the natural world we live in make it impossible and yet still with the evidence presented that refutes this story is ignored. Now there are people who still believe in god but view this as a story to represent a morality story but there are many who take this literally. If this story is not true then what else in the bible is not true?

I recently posted this on FACE BOOK.

Question. Is it possible to repopulate the earth on all continents with the variations in all species displayed from a single event such as Noah’s Ark entirely from Noah’s family and the animals he kept as shown in the bible in 4,000 years?

As said to me by a creationist;

“Yes, I think 4,000 years could easily repopulate the planet.”

What are the pros and cons to this premise?

What flaws does this raise and what logic does it demonstrate in its verification?

If it is not true does this now show the bible to be false? If it is true does this verify the bible as true?

How do we verify the evidence we present and if you discredit evidence on what basis?

This is the central theme and if one event in the bible is false or true what does this say about all the other events?

Let’s get to the truth on this.

This doesn’t make it any more real.

Ok so what is the evidence?

Hans Rosling’s 200 Countries, 200 Years, 4 Minutes – The Joy of Stats – BBC Four

This video addresses the population questions in regards to where we were 200 years ago and where we are now.

There is enough information in the links and videos I presented to verify that the story of Noah’s ark is just not true. I urge people to stop taking it as true. We have enough hurdles to overcome in this world without adding to it with delusional thinking.

As my son says to me about fantasy from a comic he heard; for your information a missile defense shield is a net made of magic held up in the sky by pixies. This is a reference to George Bush.

Again if you subscribe to magic then it will be believable but if you deal in reality it will not.

The very idea that a man can live to 950 years old as the reported age of Noah at his death is beyond even considering believable.

The above linked post from The Atheist Experience addresses some of the obvious challenges Noah and his family would have faced and if it is possible to recreate the ark today using the tools of the time. The Creation Museum in Kentucky is planning to spend 25 million dollars to do this but will they follow the methods of the time it was built.

http://creationmuseum.org/ The Creation Museum official website. Prepare to be amazed.

So if you have any inkling of sanity I am sure you will have to ask yourself how this story could possibly be real otherwise you will justify it within the realm of magic. You will think that all others who do not believe just don’t understand your god and the possibilities that are real with your god. I can say with confidence that you are deluding yourself.

If you want to subscribe to this then please throw away all things that science has provided for you in your life because if you ignore their methods here then don’t accept them in other areas in your life.

Journal Entry # 164

OK, during my many debates, conversations, arguments and talks with the faithful I keep running into to this constant annoying snag called the bible or any other holy book depending on whom I am talking with. For some reason they constantly keep quoting it. I know why but I thought this would sound better. It is the only evidence they have when I ask for evidence. The problem is this they assume that it is true and infallible. This is simply not true and a huge problem.

If your entire foundation for a discussion is based on a book that you believe is the word of your god but you have no way of verifying it except that you believe then where  does this leave us? Unless god himself wrote every word in the book it is written by man and therefore cannot be the word of your god. What do I have to say to get this idea through people’s heads?  If you say Jesus said or god said and then quote a bible verse you are lying. You have no way of verifying that god or Jesus said anything. It is an assumption. Prove me wrong I dare you. I double dare you.

All you are telling me is what someone wrote down somewhere that they think Jesus or god said. You don’t know if it is true so stop saying it is true when you don’t know. Be honest.  How can we have a discussion if you will not acknowledge this?

I don’t know the entire history of the bible or any holy book and frankly I don’t care. It really does not matter if we are talking about truth. If you tell me that it is the word of your god you are implying supernatural authority while making giant, huge assumptions.  This is another reason why religion is dangerous. You will now believe this to be the word of your god and therefore above question. Please take a step back into reality. So nobody gets hurt.

It is just a book . It has been around a long time but so have other books. It is full of contradictions and wild stretches of the imagination. Take it for what it really is a manmade book with stories and parables. Anything that you quote from it is your interpretation of what you are reading not your gods. It can be no other way.

The book taken literally is full of dangerous ideals just look at how the Qruan is being used to justify terrible acts against humanity. Stop and think about this. Believe if you want but remember it is a belief not fact  that comes from that book.

bible warning

               Read the warning label.

Deaths in the Bible. God – 2,270,365 not including the victims of Noah’s flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, or the many plagues, famines, fiery serpents, etc because no specific numbers were given. Satan – 10

As far as I can tell from studying the scriptures, all you do in heaven is pretty much just sit around all day and praise the Lord. I don’t know about you, but I think that after the first, oh, I don’t know, 50,000,000 years of that I’d start to get a little bored.

Properly read, the Bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived

Who Hijacked Reality / #161 Blocked on FACE BOOK.

Journal Entry # 161

I had a very interesting experience today. I noticed on my side tab a site called The Bible so being curious I checked it out. I am all for stimulating conversation. I also like to discuss religious ideals with people so when I noticed on the side of their panel this;

http://www.facebook.com/TheBible

The Bible page is a place for sharing the Word of God and studying together. We welcome non-Christians. Many come searching for answers and posing challenging questions. Allowing us a chance to witness and study deeper.

I said to myself Ok I’ll give it a try. It was such a huge site in regards to the amount of people that their comments were fast and furious. So how do I figure out who wants to talk? So I started posting on comments eventually narrowing things to some people who wanted to talk. I felt I was respectful but I ask hard questions.

facebook-blocked

All of a sudden I am blocked. I cannot figure out who did it. Was it the admins at the bible page or FACE BOOK? It doesn’t really matter because I believe it is censorship. Are we not about free speech? Here are the rules of the site?

Welcome to The Bible page! A vision is to see the Word of God shared across Facebook.
To hear more of the vision for this page check out the vid at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SImKtzNrlj0
The following behavior won’t be tolerated:
- no personal name calling
- no swearing
- no threatening groups or individuals
- no contributions intended to mostly annoy or insult
If something offends you, feel free to ‘flag’ the comment. But a word of caution, if someone has a genuine question about our faith, engage them don’t flag them.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16

I felt I was following the rules. Maybe someone flagged me. How can we ever talk and change things if we continually feel insulted when we hear something we don’t like. This is a huge problem in this world. Who decides what is appropriate when all things are subjective. People need to toughen up.

I tried to solve the problem as I could write something but then not comment so I could not ask or answer lines of questioning. No response from the admin on the page.

Grow a thicker skin people

Here is what one lady said;

Gary was very polite and inviting at the beginning, I was even going to thank him because of his tone as a lot of non christians come to this page to try to disrupt, but then out of nowhere he just started critizing every posting there was….

Completely subjective as long as I am nice in her eyes then I am a good guy but when I cross her personal line I’m a bad guy. I see this frequently.

This experience could be alleviated by following the truth. I will list my set of values that I follow that I feel would help.

http://thefreeman.net/journal/?p=105   Go to this link to learn more.

Truth – I either acknowledge it or I don’t.

Responsibility – I am responsible for all of my actions within the house rules.

Selfish – Everything I do is selfish.

Offend – I can only offend myself.

We must talk for change to happen. What we are doing is not working so let’s begin to change. I really am sick and tired of people getting offended so easy. Wars have started over this.
