Journal Entry # 297

December 16th, 2010

I went and saw the new Harry Potter film today. I must say I have enjoyed the franchise but my wife especially is enchanted by the movies. This reminded me of a constant theme throughout history and within the world of fantasy. There is always a chosen one.

It certainly makes for a great plot. When you have ultimate evil you must have ultimate good. There are countless stories that have this theme represented.

Harry Potter

The Matrix

The Last Airbender

The Lord of the Rings

Star Wars

Just to name a few. Of course I cannot forget the religions of today which generally carry the same theme, Christianity with Jesus as the ultimate chosen one. There are many demi-chosens as well, Moses, Paul and David to name a few.

We always need someone to save the day as we feel that we cannot do it ourselves. Now one must realize that this is all fantasy and must not be taken as reality. We are the chosen ones, each one of us. There is no guiding force that decides our fate that would bring about more problems than it solves. We are each responsible for our actions. We can choose to be good or evil.

You would have to ask who or what does the choosing? Why is it that there is a special one? What does that make the rest of us who are not chosen? This implies a cosmic game where we are the pawns. I prefer to realize that I chose my path as best I can within the rules set forth by the natural world. I do not know the answers to all the questions we will ask but I will do my very best to concentrate on what we do know and continue to seek the truth in all matters.

The chosen one is a wonderful fantasy but that is all it is. We have the power to change our destiny, all it takes is a few adjustments in the way we think and the acceptance of what is true.

When you look, the chosen one is always in the mirror. You be the chosen one in your own story and choose wisely.

Seek the truth always
